I am a visual artist that lives with mental illness. It was early adolescence that depression and anxiety set in. I went through major depressive episodes and experienced intense anxiety on and off for years.

I am alive because of the many people, personally and professionally, who truly care and believe that I am much more than a diagnosis. I am truly grateful to each and every one of them. I have an ardent desire to list all of the people that have helped me over the years and make this bio about them, but I have become stronger and more courageous over the years and so I will stand in the spotlight proudly and give props to myself. I am still here and that is huge.

It gives me great pleasure to donate a piece of my work to help eliminate the stigma of mental illness.

This particular sculpture is made of white stoneware that was “salt-fired”.

In a nutshell, “Salt-firing” is an atmospheric high firing technique where salt is introduced into the kiln near the end of the firing process (2350). The extreme heat volatilizes the salt, freeing the sodium that acts as a flux on the silica in the clay. This process creates a unique glaze.
