My name is Jessica Cornwell. When living in New York, I had worked as a Family Advocate in Dutchess County. I had referred families to NAMI but it wasn’t until I needed help that I understood its true value. When my daughter’s mental health declined, I enrolled in the Family to Family program. I gained a better understanding of my daughter’s illness and how it impacted her, how to communicate, my rights as a parent, and of other resources in the area. I also gained a family in that class that understood my worries, concerns, guilt and tears. Most importantly, I wasn’t alone. We weren’t alone and we offered strength to each other that allowed each of us to be a better person for our loved ones. We had found hope. I am donating today to offer hope to others.
